Courchevel comprises six villages: Saint-Bon, Le Praz, La Tania, Courchevel Village, Moriond and Courchevel 1850. Each has its own setting and relationship to the lifts. Le Praz, at around 1,300 metres, offers traditional village character. Courchevel 1850 places boutiques, dining and a resort atmosphere at the centre of the experience.

The wider Les 3 Vallées network links the Courchevel, Méribel and Belleville valleys, with connections towards Orelle. Its advertised 600 kilometres of pistes describe the full area, not the terrain open every day. Val d’Isère is a separate destination and is not connected to this network.

Match the skiing to your group

Beginners: arrange lessons before arrival and confirm the meeting point. Choose a suitable learning area with your instructor rather than selecting a village solely for its altitude. Progress is individual; there is no timetable for when someone should tackle a particular piste colour.

Intermediate skiers: build confidence on local runs before planning longer journeys. A full-area pass may suit cross-valley exploration, while a local pass may be sufficient for a shorter or more relaxed holiday. Check coverage before purchasing.

Experienced skiers: take current conditions, visibility and the weakest member of your group into account. Use qualified professionals for off-piste plans, and follow local closures and mountain-safety advice. A marked route on yesterday’s map is not a guarantee of today’s access.

Plan a ski day that feels like a holiday

Begin close to your base, with time for equipment adjustments and warm-up runs. Agree a lunch meeting point that everyone can reach. Before crossing into another valley, check the return lifts and allow a comfortable margin before closing. Wind or poor visibility may change your plans; have an alternative rather than relying on the final connection.

Book lessons and equipment ahead for busy school-holiday periods. Give rental providers accurate sizes and experience levels. For families, clarify children’s lesson times, supervision and collection arrangements. Non-skiers should confirm pedestrian access separately from ski-pass coverage.

Beyond the slopes

Build in time for village walks, dining and a quiet evening at your chalet. Courchevel offers both fine dining and more informal options; opening days and reservations matter during seasonal transitions. Check activity providers directly for snowshoeing and other winter outings.

Travel, timing and budget

Plan onward road travel from Moûtiers station or your chosen airport. Leave time for traffic, snow and the final approach to the chalet. Confirm parking and transfer arrangements before travel, including child seats and luggage space.

Choose dates around the published lift calendar and current conditions. Early or late availability at a property does not guarantee skiing. Accommodation, passes, lessons, equipment, meals, transfers and local tourist tax belong in separate budget lines; obtain current quotes instead of relying on generic resort prices.
